Dear Janet and Paul I was so sorry to hear about the the sad loss of your mum. I'm so sorry I won't able to join you at the funeral. I first met Barbara when I started at Grangewood in 1982/3. I was introduced to your mum as Helen because there was already a Barbara on the staff. She was certainly a support to me as a young teacher in a new school. There were certainly some adventures on school trips and holidays. She pick up on my love of music when I used to play my guitar for a singaround with the leavers group. She must have been persuasive because she suggested joining her music group for a show "South Pacific". I had just changed jobs and I was struggling with my new post. It turned out it was just what I needed. 'You just need to do one show' she suggested. 20+ years later I was still performing with HMS. A simple suggestion that changed everything. Always there with a kind word or constructive criticism. After one show the message came that Pip had enjoyed the show but ...... it's a pity I hadn't cleaned my shoes. This became a running joke over the years. I have your Mum to thank for so much. I know there will be lots of stories and anecdotes to share. She was a true friend to so many and certainly a special friend to me.
